Howard stopped by Camp Colorado on Tuesday, May 8th and discovered that the most recent snow had brought down many trees.  Howard and Jan were able to walk into the Dining Hall area, as there were numerous trees blocking access on the road.  Howard noted at least two locations where power poles had been snapped off.

With this new information, Howard and Jan Duncan, Paul Rohrer, Lyall Sherred, and Roy Grosbach went back to Camp on May 9th to clear the road to a point where IREA (electric company) could have access on Thursday May 10th to begin repairing the downed power lines feeding the camps main distribution panel.  They were successful in clearing the road, but spent the entire day at the camp.  While working Roy Grosbach took pictures.

Howard reported that IREA was working Thursday May 10th but that they were not sure whether they would complete their work Thursday.

As you can see from the pictures above, there is a lot of cleanup work that will need to occur during the Memorial Work Weekend, May 25 - 28.  Please come up and help the Camp Colorado Corporation Board prepare the camp for the 2007 Camping Season.

Opening Update

We had about 10 - 15 people who were able to come up to the camp this past weekend.  The main tasks were removing trees in, on, and around buildings to provide access,  hooking up the down electric lines from the main distribution panel, and then getting water to all buildings.  Approximately 20 - 30 trees were cut up, including the tree on top of the manager's cabin roof, Columbine's roof, the Rec Hall's roof, and the lodge's deck.

Electricity to the main buildings was back on around 3 pm Friday afternoon.   With electricity to the Rec Hall, water pumping began.  Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, saw cracked and split water pipes repaired.  Water was flowing to all buildings by noon on Saturday, May 12th.

Tree cutting and cleaning continued on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday. Below are pictures taken during the weekend.
