Additional Details for Renters
Group Rental
Information - Reservations are required. We encourage larger
groups (75-100) through our rate structure. Groups are free to use the
camps kitchen facilities, dishes, utensils and sports equipment. An on
site manager is available to answer questions and directions. Groups are
expected to provide their own linen (mattress covers) and sleeping bags or
blankets. Groups are also expected to clean the facility before
their departure from camp and return all items to their proper place. Pets
are not allowed, smoking is strongly discouraged (and is generally not
allowed in the National Forest).
Facilities
-
There are three boys dorms and three girls dorms outfitted with bunk beds
only (we are set up as a youth camp rather than a family retreat
center). Gender specific bathroom and shower facilities are
centrally located in the midst of the men's (boy's) dorms and the women's
(girl's) dorms. For that reason we discourage the use of each dorm
as a cabin for a family unit and encourage the use of the facilities the
way that they were designed (men's side of the camp vs. women's side of
the camp).
A recreation building features a craft
area, game room, stage and 16 X 24 foot, wood deck. This building houses
ping pong, shuffleboard, four square, piano, board games and a small
library. It is often used by study groups, for camp crafts or for camp
talent shows. The camp provides lots of opportunities for fun and
recreation. There are 85 acres with several hiking trails, a ball park,
sand volleyball court, horse shoe pits, basketball court, tether ball, 9
hole frisbee golf course, and
a camp fire area. The camp provides bats, balls, gloves, frisbees, so
campers don't have to bring them. A treetop gazebo and lookout ledge
provides a unique gathering spots as well as over-look to many of the
camps activities. The camp is very secluded, located in several connected
mountain valleys. This promotes a feeling of family and
togetherness.
Locale - Aspen
groves, Douglas firs, lodge pole pines accent local wild flowers such as
the Indian paint brush, columbine, hare bell, and showy daisy throughout
the camp. Large unusual rock formations dot the camp and the surrounding
area. Hundreds of humming birds call the area their summer home. Its not
unusual for a black bear, flocks of wild turkeys and herds of deer or elk
to visit the camp throughout the summer. The 400 mile Colorado Trail
passes very near the camp and can be reached by a short hike. Most
camps include a hike up a nearby mountain to the last Ranger manned Fire
Protection Station Devil's Head, which guards the Pike National Forest
(see our
Devils
Head Hiking page). The South Platte river (about 15 minutes away) also
provides hiking trails, fishing as well as rafting for the stout hearted
willing to brave its chilly waters.
Renters Capacities - Location: Camp Colorado is
located only 43 miles southwest of Downtown Denver near Rampart Range Road
in the Pike National Forest just off a well maintained county highway.

Camp Colorado is located in the Pike
National Forest just fourteen miles above and west of the small town of
Sedalia, Colorado, roughly 40 minutes from Denver and about 70 minutes
from Colorado Springs. The terrain is very steep, heavily wooded
and secluded. The property is filled with beautiful Colorado
wildflowers, native wildlife, herds of deer, wild turkeys and an
occasional black bear. Huge rocks dot the camp and make
attractive hiking destinations. The early part of the summer (all of
June) is dedicated to providing our own Church of the Brethren sponsored
camp's.
Everyone is talking about how much there
is for groups to do in the area. There is much to do in the area
whether you head north to Denver or South to Colorado Springs. The
following are just of few of the nearby attractions (many sites have
savings coupons):
- South in the Colorado Springs Region -
the Manitou and Pikes Peak Railway
will take you to the top of
Pikes Peak,
elevation 14,110. At the
Cave of the
Winds, you will descend into the colorful depths of Colorado.
Miramont Castle and the Cliff
Dwellings Museum will take you back in time. The
Iron Springs Chateau Melodrama and the Flying "W" Ranch Chuck Wagon Cowboy Show will tickle
your funny bone and delight your senses. The Garden of the Gods and Helen Hunt Falls will lift your
spirit. Families have all of this to enjoy and more! The
North Pole & Santa’s Workshop,
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo,
Air Force Academy, Seven
Falls and Royal Gorge Bridge
are all a short drive away.
- North in Denver Area, many groups like
to head into
Casa
Bonita's in Lakewood for a lunch or dinner and enjoy the
entertainment of cliff divers, arcades and a truly unique environment.
There is also the
Denver mint and a
water theme park: Water
World. Local amusement parks like Elitch's Six Flags, Heritage
Square, and Lakeside Amusement Park
provide a wide variety of summer experiences. Denver also offers
attractions like Ocean Journey, The
Children's Museum, The Butterfly Pavilion, Denver
Zoo, and the Museum of Natural History. Further
north lies Estes Park and the Rocky Mountain National
Park.
- Many hiking areas are available in and
around Camp Colorado, including a short drive (9 miles) to Devil's
Head and a 1-1/2 mile hike up a paved path to the last manned ranger
lookout station that gives you a very spectacular view of 100's of
square miles of Colorado.
